Weird News: Shark on Course (Not Our Eau Claire Golf Course)

Chances are slim to none that we’ll ever see anything as exotic as leopard shark on our Eau Claire golf course (which is probably a good thing), but check out the weird news story below:

San Juan Hills Golf Course, located in San Juan Capistrano, CA, has been in business for more than 40 years. And over the past four decades, this Orange County course has seen all sorts of strange critters, including mountain lions and ospreys.

This past week, however, the course had one of its weirdest visitors to date – a live leopard shark writhing around in the grass near the 12th hole tee. And the oddest part? The San Juan Hills golf course is more than a mile from the nearest ocean. A shark on a golf course? How did it get there? The answer will forever remain a mystery, but director of club and member operations, Melissa McCormack, believes the shark may have been picked up (and subsequently dropped onto their course) by a predatory bird. “We’re obviously not experts, but there were puncture marks and blood that is consistent with what we would expect those markings to look like,” she said. In case you were worried, club officials carefully transported the 2-foot long shark via golf cart and later released it at Dana Point, where it safely swam to freedom.
